Talas is a small town in north-western Kyrgyzstan. It is located in a long valley between two impressive mountain ranges. It is the administrative center of Talas region..

More than 250 rivers, creeks and streams, over 10 km long are formed on the territory of the Talas region. Most of them (225) are in the basin of Talas, and the rest belong to the basin. The fauna includes 42 species of mammals, 165 species of birds, 14 reptiles, 3 species of amphibians, 18 species of fish. In the middle of the Talas river Talas valley is surrounded by forest on the banks of more than 100 km. long and 2 to 3 km wide.
Of the species listed in Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic there is bear, leopard, lynx, Tien-Shan mountain sheep, and 15 species of birds: black stork, Balaban, golden eagle, bearded vulture, Kumai, demoiselle, serpent eagle, a cemetery, steppe eagle, red stripped runner, pike asp, Turkestan catfish.
Objects of commercial and sport hunting are a bearded partridge (Chil), quail, mountain partridges, pheasants, doves, dove and rock dove ringdove, snow cock, river duck, hare tolai, red marmot, wolf, fox, steppe polecat, badger, weasel, mink, weasel, muskrat, deer, ibex, wild boar.
Enormous canyons cut through the walls of the Talas Ridge by numerous local rivers and dozens of beautiful lakes and waterfalls are of great interest to the tourists.
